The LEOSU Wishes to Acknowledge Mandalay Bay Casino Security Officer Jesus Campos for his Heroic Actions in Stopping Las Vegas Mass Murderer Stephen Paddock

October 7, 2017

Las Vegas - The Law Enforcement Officers Security Unions LEOSU, wishes to acknowledge the heroic actions of Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Security Officer Jesus Campos who drew the attention of mass murderer Stephen Paddock away from the chaos below and toward the hallway outside his room in one of the most horrific attacks and deadliest shootings in US history. Jesus Campos, was shot in the leg while checking on the alarm and according to a police-reported timeline, Paddock never fired on the crowd below again.

On Sunday night, as Stephen Paddock continued to unload modified semi-automatic weapons into a crowd of thousands, one man would prevent his massacre from continuing: Jesus Campos, an unarmed guard. Campos was the first person to reach the retired 64-year-old accountant at his 32nd floor room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, where he had amassed an arsenal of 23 weapons, with scopes, and an array of cameras to monitor the corridor outside of his base. Campos took the elevator to the 32nd floor, approaching the room where Paddock had barricaded himself. When the gunman saw the Campos approaching the room, he shot through the door, hitting Campos in the right leg and leaving him wounded. Paddock took his own life, authorities have said, after killing 58 people and causing injury to about 500 more.

“Jesus Campos is a true hero,” noted LEOSU Organizing Director Steve Maritas. “Everyone needs to recognize the position all security professionals hold, whether it’s a casino or a federal facility or mall— these security officer professionals deserve RESPECT.I don’t think that our officers are recognized enough for the valuable role that they play in protecting property, people and even the nation. We just want to make sure that Mr. Campos and all of our officers are recognized for what they do every day, which is to be the first line of defense in protecting people and property.” Maritas said. Presently the LEOSU is actively organizing Las Vegas Casino Officers under LVCSOA in our attempt to gain RESPECT for these casino security officers. Jesus Campos just highlights the need for RESPECT.
